Chelsea’s Joao Felix started and played the full game during Portugal’s 1-1 draw away to Croatia on Monday night.
Portugal recorded a draw versus Croatia in the Nations League competition yesterday, where a couple of Chelsea stars were involved.
Joao Felix, 25, started in attack and opened the scoring with a clinical left-footed finish. Blues teammate Renato Veiga started at centre-back for the Portuguese side, too.
Despite his eye-catching performance on the international stage, Felix is struggling for minutes at club level. Chelsea boss Enzo Maresca admits he wants to play Felix more, but he’s struggling to fit all his quality attackers into the same starting XI.
Unfortunately, Felix is in the very tough position of battling Cole Palmer for the No.10 playmaker spot.

Chelsea fans react to Joao Felix’s Portugal display
A selection of the Chelsea fanbase on social media raved about Felix after his international performance on Monday evening. Also, Portuguese media were equally amazed by Felix’s display for his country.
Interestingly, many Chelsea fans are all arguing the same point that the 25-year-old forward should be playing more club football.
Here are Blues supporters on X demanding that Felix starts more matches for them:
@CFC_Cal10 posted: “Felix has to get game time man.”
@Nu_ges wrote: “Criminal not to always bring Felix in when Palmer is tired. Maresca, Felix is not a player you don’t bring on at all.”
@4KTducio said: “Felix my friend, I’m so sorry Maresca is forcing Palmer instead of splitting your minutes. You are world class.”
@cfcBino claimed: “I feel Joao Felix can offer more/ same work rate as Cole Palmer for Chelsea. If Maresca gives him playing time. Why’s he so underrated…”
@CFCZeno shared: “Joao Felix was man of the match tonight for Portugal… Always had a special talent on the ball, but now his work rate off the ball is really improving too. Maresca must start him for Chelsea soon.”
Joao Felix’s time will come this season
Felix, who re-signed for Chelsea in the summer on a permanent basis from Atletico Madrid, is showing some incredible patience in the opening few months of the season.
The technical attacker is making an impact whenever he’s actually on the football pitch, but it’s pretty damning that he’s still yet to start a Premier League game this campaign.
| Competition | Appearances (Starts) | Goals | Assists |
| Premier League | 5 (0) | 1 | 0 |
| Conference League | 3 (3) | 4 | 0 |
| Carabao Cup | 2 (2) | 0 | 1 |
With such a busy fixture schedule ahead, Felix will surely get some more opportunities to play. The Portuguese star reminded everyone during the international break that he’s still a quality player, too.
Pat Nevin recently said Felix will prove people wrong at Chelsea, so hopefully it’s just a matter of time before his luck changes.
