Chelsea recorded a 2-0 win at home to Newcastle United on Monday night – and some of the club’s fans on Twitter were wowed by the quality of Mateo Kovacic’s display.
The Blues continued their unbeaten start under manager Thomas Tuchel with a routine victory in the Premier League.
Olivier Giroud, who was substituted on for the inured Tammy Abraham in the first-half, opened the scoring in the 31st minute.
Timo Werner then added a second before the half-time break to end his goal drought, as he tucked in a scrappy finish at the back post.
The three points lifted the team into fourth in the league table, as they firmly put themselves back into the race for the Champions League positions.
A selection of Chelsea supporters on social media believe that it was their midfielder Kovacic who was the star of the show, despite some great individual performances elsewhere.
Kovacic, 26, has quickly become a go-to figure in the centre of the park for Tuchel.
The £40million (BBC) central midfielder was involved defensively with a couple of fierce tackles and interceptions, while going forward he showed intent with his passing and some quick dribbling.
His partnership in the midfield with Jorginho has been reinstated, with the duo excellent at keeping control of matches.
