England kickstarted the European Under-21s Championship with defeat on Thursday – but some Chelsea fans on Twitter liked what they saw from their talented prospect Callum Hudson-Odoi.
Aidy Boothroyd’s England were beaten 1-0 by Switzerland in the Under-21s fixture, as the latter scored a late winner to earn three points in the group fixture.
Blues star Hudson-Odoi completed 90 minutes for the Young Lions, and slotted in as a right-winger in a 3-4-3 formation.
The 20-year-old was arguably England’s brightest spark in a match they were underwhelming in.
Fortunately, Chelsea fans watching got to see Hudson-Odoi provide some real quality individual moments, as he injected a bit of offensive intent.
He couldn’t keep a left-footed shot on target after a superb piece of skill to find space in the penalty box, plus he was direct in attacking the opposition with his quick dribbling whenever he got position.

A selection of Chelsea supporters on social media felt that their academy graduate was in great form on Thursday, with one claiming he should be going with the senior squad to this summer’s European Championships.
If some of his teammates were performing at his level, it’s unlikely England would have lost.
It felt like he was a bit of a one-man army at times, and he tried to take the attack to Switzerland.
There were examples where the right-winger showed he can improve his decision-making, but that will come with time and Chelsea know they have a big talent on the books at Stamford Bridge.
