Chelsea fans are glad the club did not sign Manchester United goalkeeper Andre Onana after his performance against Bayern Munich in the Champions League.

Andre Onana had a night to forget as United went on to lose 4-3 at the Allianz Arena.

He was at fault for Leroy Sane’s opener and Chelsea fans were not impressed with his overall performance.

Many supporters took to Twitter to express that, with the general consensus being that the 27-year-old was a bullet dodged.

According to The Telegraph, Chelsea did consider signing Onana ahead of the new season. In the end, though, they decided to go for Robert Sanchez instead.

Robert Sanchez a good alternative

There were probably a lot of Chelsea fans who did want Onana before his move to United.

He really impressed at Inter Milan last season, helping the Italian giants to make it to the Champions League final, where they lost to United’s rivals Manchester City.

However, the Stamford Bridge faithful can still be pleased with the acquisition of Sanchez. The Spaniard arrived at Chelsea with Premier League experience, is a bit younger than Onana and did not cost as much as him.

He could very well end up being a low-risk, high-reward signing for the Blues.

Sanchez put in a top performance in Chelsea’s 0-0 draw with Bournemouth last Sunday and Mauricio Pochettino will now be keen to see more of the same when his side take on Aston Villa next. But hopefully the Spain international is not tested as much in a game the club really need to win.
