Former Chelsea player Tino Livramento helped Newcastle United to a 1-0 win against Arsenal yesterday.

Tino Livramento came on in the second half and it is fair to say supporters of his old club were impressed with how he dealt with Gabriel Martinelli after his introduction to the game.

Chelsea sold the right-back to Southampton back in 2021 and he did enough there for Newcastle to sign him during the summer.

The Magpies bought Livramento from the Saints in a deal worth £40m in total, as reported by BBC Sport.

“Tino Livramento is absolutely class,” one Chelsea fan said yesterday when speaking about the 20-year-old’s display against Arsenal on X.

Another said: “Livramento put in proper shift in today.”

Tino Livramento had to leave Chelsea

It would have been great if Chelsea had kept hold of Livramento, but the English youngster probably felt he had no choice but to leave Stamford Bridge.

The Blues already have an excellent right-back in Reece James, who is not too much older than Livramento. He was a huge barrier for his former teammate.

Ultimately, it made sense for the England U21 international to join Southampton. And having ended up at Newcastle, who are now a Champions League club, you could say his move to St Mary’s worked out pretty well.

He got the chance to play and prove himself before picking up that serious injury. It kept him out for a long time, but Livramento was still able to do enough prior to it to convince Newcastle of his qualities.

It really is a shame that Livramento is no longer at Chelsea, especially with James having his own injury issues and there being a lot of talk about a potential move to Real Madrid. But the Blues are just going to have to move on now and hope that there are not too many more repeats of what has happened with their former defender.
