Chelsea suffered a frustrating away defeat against Manchester City – and some of the club’s fans were extremely harsh with their criticism of defender Emerson Palmieri.
The Blues let an early lead slip to suffer a 2-1 loss against Manchester City at the Etihad Stadium.
N’Golo Kante deservedly put Chelsea ahead with his tidy finish, as they were rewarded for their bravery on the ball and showed they can go toe-to-toe with Manchester City.
But defensive problems were once again an issue and the defeat means Frank Lampard’s side end the day fourth in the Premier League table.
Kevin De Bruyne’s deflected shot drew Manchester City level and Riyad Mahrez scored the winner before half-time.
Despite the brilliance of Mahrez’s left-footed finish, from a Chelsea perspective it may have been avoidable and left-back Emerson allowed him to cut inside far too easily.
Emerson was substituted off in the second-half after a difficult evening at the Etihad and has struggled at times in the big fixtures.
There are now serious question marks over who the first-choice left-back is and the 25-year-old may now have a serious job on his hands.
Marcos Alonso is one potential option that will want to push him for a starting position, while captain Cesar Azpilicueta can also move over to left-back.
Lampard certainly has a big decision to make over his full-backs and it’s a hot topic being discussed with supporters.
