Chelsea fans fed up with Emerson Palmieri after Southampton display

Chelsea were beaten 2-0 at home to Southampton on Boxing Day – and some of the club’s supporters on Twitter launched a scathing attack on defender Emerson Palmieri for his performance.

After winning away at Tottenham last weekend, the Blues came crashing back down to earth on Thursday with yet another below per display at home in front of their own fans.

Frank Lampard’s side have continued to struggle at Stamford Bridge this campaign and that was the case against Southampton.

There was a complete lack of ruthlessness going forward, while the visitors looked far more threatening and forward Michael Obaefemi scored the opening strike in the first-half.

Nathan Redmond’s second-half goal wrapped up three points for the Saints in the Premier League fixture and it was once again a worrying result for Lampard to reflect on.

Chelsea stay fourth in the league table, but they will be just two points above fifth in Wolverhampton win against Manchester City on Friday.

A selection of Chelsea supporters on social media picked out Emerson as a real weak point in the contest and void their frustration with him.

The 25-year-old full-back came back into the side and he struggled at left wing-back.

He’s not the best going forward and some feel that teammate Marcos Alonso is a more natural fit when a 3-4-3 formation is deployed.
