Chelsea fans make the same point about Graham Potter as he’s sacked by West Ham

West Ham announced the sacking of Graham Potter as their head coach on Saturday morning. Chelsea supporters have been quick to weigh in with their thoughts on the biggest breaking news in the Premier League.

After just eight months in charge, West Ham confirmed that Graham Potter has left his position at the London Stadium.

The English coach has seen his reputation take a real hit recently. First, he completely flopped at Stamford Bridge with Chelsea. He has followed it up with another poor spell across London with the Hammers.

Chelsea’s decision to appoint Potter in September 2022 completely backfired because he underperformed in the Blues dugout. Even though he was extremely highly rated when he managed Brighton, history has now repeated itself with a short and unsuccessful reign at West Ham.

Chelsea fans react as West Ham sack Graham Potter

After the news broke of West Ham’s decision to part ways with Potter, Chelsea supporters on X reacted the same way. They are in total disbelief that the 50-year-old coach was ever their head coach.

One fan posted: “How did we believe in Potter?”

“Thoughts with all those who thought that Graham Potter was the right man to lead Chelsea forward,” another said.

One supporter wrote: “Chelsea really hired Graham Potter as a head coach. He has just been sacked by a lower table club. We’ve come a long way.”

“I can’t believe Potter stepped his feet into Cobham,” another claimed.

After becoming West Ham boss in January 2025, Potter said his Chelsea stint made him a better coach. Unfortunately, he couldn’t get things going with the Irons, so now finds himself out of work yet again.

Potter’s stock seems pretty low now after his previous two jobs, so it will be interesting to see where he ends up next.

At Brighton, Potter excelled as the Seagulls manager, implementing eye-catching football and competing well in the Premier League. He’s looked a little out of his depth when taking the step up to clubs with a far larger fanbase and expectation, though.

Nuno Espirito Santo will replace Graham Potter

It sounds like West Ham are acting fast to to bring a replacement in the manager’s dugout.

Journalist Fabrizio Romano has claimed via X that Nuno Espirito Santo, who left Nottingham Forest earlier in September, will take charge imminently as the new Hammers manager.

West Ham’s next match is on Monday night against Everton in the Premier League.
