Chelsea’s return to Premier League action on Saturday will be a second consecutive West London derby, and supporters believe changes need to be made to the starting side.

The Blues will visit Brentford to try and keep up their promising start to the campaign, however Enzo Maresca will have some tough decisions to make when it comes to selection.

The boss will already know that Liam Delap will be missing due to injury, with Dario Essugo joining him on the treatment table during the international break.

Some of his players who were not able to enjoy much of a post-season due to the Club World Cup have also continued to be pushed to the limits. Marc Cucurella was amongst those who started both games for their countries.

The Spaniard is amongst those who played near enough every game in the run in last season, due to there not being a recognised backup for him.

Chelsea fans want Jorrel Hato to start vs Brentford

Chelsea addressed this over the summer with the signing of Jorrel Hato for £37m from Ajax, and he has been seen off the bench on occasion since his signing.

Blues fans believe that the clash against Brentford is the time for the Dutchman to be handed his first start for Chelsea.

One user said: “With Cucurella & Reece James playing both games for their countries, it’s important we use our full back depth. Gusto & Hato start vs Brentford imo.”

Another added: “With Cucurella and Reece James logging full minutes on international duty, Chelsea must lean on their full-back depth. Starting Gusto and Hato vs. Brentford feels like the smart move

A third stated: “Hato should get minutes here. Cucurella has played both games on international break, allow him to be fit for the Bayern match.”

Another stated: “Might as well rest Cucurella against Brentford and start Hato. That’s why we signed him. For squad depth.”

Finally, one user said: “I think we should have a Hato-Tosin-Chalobah-Gusto back 4 on Saturday so as to rest Cucurella and RJ ahead of Bayern mid week.”

Chelsea have faith in Hato to deliver

The Blues spent big money to bring in the defender amid interest from Arsenal and Liverpool, after holding long-term interest in the youngster.

Chelsea will be thrilled with their addition for a number of reasons. His ability to play at centre-back is something that will likely be required following the serious injury of Levi Colwill.

There is belief at the club that Hato can deputise for Colwill in his absence, which perhaps explains why they did not sign a new centre-back over the summer.
