Mason Mount played the first half of England’s win over San Marino on Thursday night – and some Chelsea fans on Twitter were raving about their star’s international performance.

Gareth Southgate’s England cruised to a 5-0 victory at Wembley in a World Cup qualifier against minnows San Marino.

It was very much a Chelsea-influenced first half from England. Blues players Mount, Reece James and Ben Chilwell laid on assists for teammates Raheem Sterling, Dominic Calvert-Lewin and James Ward-Proswe respectively.

The Three Lions extended their lead in the second period through another from Calvert-Lewin, as well as a debut goal from Ollie Watkins.

A selection of Chelsea supporters on social media waxed lyrical about Mount’s contribution, albeit recognising it was against inferior opposition.

The attacking midfielder was taken off at half time, presumably for rest, as he was so instrumental in the opening 45 minutes.

He was the creative hub for England with the way he varied his runs to drop into different pockets of space.

The 22-year-old grabbed himself an assist, and his reputation continues to rise in an England shirt.

If Southgate’s decision to take him off is anything to go by, perhaps he’s in line for more starts during this international break in the next two World Cup qualifiers.
