Chelsea fans have been left dissecting the team’s latest defeat on Tuesday night against Wolverhampton Wanderers – and some of them on Twitter have questioned the decision from manager Frank Lampard regarding his Olivier Giroud substitution.

The Blues were beaten 2-1 away to Wolves in the Premier League fixture, despite taking a lead early in the second-half.

Giroud, who has eight goals in 14 games this season in all competitions, volleyed in the opener to continue his rich vein of form.

The French centre-forward was substituted off by Lampard five minutes after Daniel Podence’s equaliser in the 66th minute, with teammate Tammy Abraham replacing him to lead the Chelsea attack.

But they were unable to regain their lead, instead Wolves snatched three points with Pedro Neto’s 95th minute goal on the counter-attack.

A selection of Chelsea fans on social media believe that replacing Giroud for the final 20 minutes of the match was a big mistake on Lampard’s part, as he’s the forward shining right now at Stamford Bridge.

The 34-year-old left-footer went close with a headed chance before his eventual goal and perhaps a third may have fallen his way in the closing stages, but it’s all academic now.

It looks like he’s cemented his position in the XI for now and clearly has a big portion of the fanbase behind him.
