Chelsea are reportedly planning to hold talks with defender Antonio Rudiger about a new contract – and some of the club’s supporters have given a big thumbs up to the speculation.

The Daily Mail reports that the Blues want to speed up talks to wrap up a new deal for him quickly.

It is understood that they don’t want any fears about his future when he enters the final two years of his existing deal in the summer, as both Tottenham and Manchester City will be in the market for a centre-back.

Rudiger has had rotten luck with injuries in recent times and only managed one first-team appearance all season.

Frank Lampard’s side have fortunately had the promising duo of Kurt Zouma and Fikayo Tomori fill in successfully at centre-back, but they are missing their powerhouse defender.

Rudiger has become a popular figure since his move to West London in 2017 and is a real leader at the back when he plays.

The German centre-back may have been forgotten by some considering his absence of late, but he was the outstanding defensive performer last season.

He is a 26-year-old that should still have his peak years ahead and it would be no surprise to see him break back into Lampard’s XI when available.

A selection of Chelsea supporters on social media view a Rudiger contract extension as a positive step moving forward and can’t wait to see more from him.
