Chelsea will reportedly allow defender Antonio Rudiger to leave Stamford Bridge – and some of the club’s fans on Twitter have responded to claim they should keep him.

According to Eurosport, the Blues plan to trim the large squad and there are five senior players they will allow to find new clubs.

The report claims that Rudiger, Kepa Arrizalabalaga, Marcos Alonso, Emerson Palmieri and Danny Drinkwater may all be be shown the exit doors if there are possible suitors.

Aged 27, Rudiger is a powerhouse centre-back that should be in his prime years right now, but is currently stuck on the Chelsea bench.

He was a £29million (BBC) signing under former Blues manager Antonio Conte back in 2017 and he’s made 121 senior appearances for the club.

But the Germany international has slipped down the pecking order under current boss Frank Lampard, playing in just six games across all competitions so far this season.

Rudidger is an athletic centre-half with pace, strength and leadership, but his decision-making can be rash and a decent Chelsea career so far has been littered by individual errors.

A selection of Chelsea supporters on social media feel the offloading the German would be the wrong decision by the club though.

He’s seemingly third in the centre-back pecking order behind Thiago Silva and Kurt Zouma this season, with Andreas Christensen and Fikayo Tomori alternative options.
