Ruben Loftus-Cheek is back in the Chelsea squad for Saturday’s clash against Tottenham – and some of the club’s fans on Twitter can’t contain their excitement with the news.
Blues manager Frank Lampard has confirmed that the 24-year-old is back in the squad for the Premier League fixture this weekend at home to Spurs.
Loftus-Cheek has been sidelined through injury all season, but has been regaining his fitness in the last month and featured for the Under-23s.
The 24-year-old is now back in contention for the huge London derby against Spurs and it would be a huge boost for fans to see him on the bench.
“Ruben is in the squad. Not fit to start, but in the squad,” Lampard said in his press conference ahead of Spurs, as quoted by Football.London.
With N’Golo Kante facing three weeks on the sidelines through injury (Football.London), it looks like the reinforcement of Loftus-Cheek in midfield will come at the ideal time.
He is an attacking midfielder that is going to add some real quality to the XI when he gets back to his best and he must be allowed time adjust to first-team action again.
There must be a real temptation to throw him in against Spurs, but Lampard has confirmed he won’t be starting and he will be cautious with him.
