Edouard Mendy made his debut in Chelsea’s Carabao Cup defeat against Tottenham on Tuesday night – and some of the club’s supporters on Twitter were impressed by his performance.
The Blues were beaten 5-4 on a penalty shootout to miss out on a place in the quarter-finals, with Mason Mount’s missed spot-kick the decisive one.
Frank Lampard’s side were tied 1-1 with Spurs after 90 minutes, with Erik Lamela’s late strike in the second-half cancelling out an opener from Timo Werner.
After dominating the first-half, Chelsea were unable to replicate the same pattern in the second-half and the contest eventually went to penalties.

Mendy looked an authoritative presence in the box against Spurs and made a couple of eye-catching saves, but couldn’t make the difference in the penalties.
The 28-year-old only completed his move to Stamford Bridge last week from French top-flight club Rennes and he’s made the switch to English football after impressing in Ligue 1.
The Senegal international is a colossus shot-stopper that fills the goal with his 6ft 6in frame and the signs are that he could be a great signing.
He’s been signed to compete for the number one jersey, as Spaniard Kepa Arrizabalaga has had a difficult 12 months where he’s been in and out of Lampard’s XI due to some struggling form.

A selection of Chelsea supporters on social media were impressed by Mendy despite failing to be the hero in the shootout.
