Reece James returned from an ankle knock against Nottingham Forest and did not disappoint. The young full-back put in yet another impressive showing and is getting some Chelsea fans very excited.
The Blues were impressive in a comfortable 2-0 win against a good Forest side. Callum Hudson-Odoi and Ross Barkley scored the goals that earned the club a spot in the fourth round of the prestigious competition.
There were a number of good performances, but James stood out more than most. After a successful loan spell with Wigan last time out, he was brought into the first-team. Lampard has gently introduced the 20-year-old into the starting line-up and is now on the cusp of being Chelsea’s starting right-back.
He was a constant threat down the right-hand side against Forest, providing some exquisite for Michy Batshuayi in the middle. Although none were converted, it was clear to see the quality of delivery that James can produce on a consistent basis.
The rising English star also possesses composure and strength far beyond his years. In the first half, he produced a sublime turn to flummox two Forest players and create space to move forward with the ball.
It is easy to get excited about young attacking talent but James is bucking the trend. Fans are growing more excited each time he plays, and you can see why. He has made a seamless transmission from Championship to Premier League football and could be the Blues starting right-back for years to come.
