Gary Neville has claimed on his podcast that VAR should remain in the Premier League despite a controversial weekend.
Chelsea were the benefactors of a huge slice of luck late on against West Ham United, as Maxwel Cornet’s strike was ruled out following an alleged foul by Jarrod Bowen on goalkeeper Edouard Mendy.
The incident has left Mendy struggling, with Thomas Tuchel claiming he may not be fit for tomorrow’s Champions League curtain raiser against Dinamo Zagreb.

However, it is tough to say the clash was a foul on the Senegal international, although fans screaming foul play would do well to remember that Michail Antonio likely should’ve been sent off minutes before scoring.
VAR had its controversial say at Newcastle United and Brighton’s games too, although Gary Neville has still claimed the technology is necessary going forwards.
Neville backs VAR
He said: “I’d rather have technology. Chelsea fans won’t like this. We lost a league here through an offside goal, I don’t know if you remember it, but he was offside and Didier scored with 10 minutes to go three games before the end of the season.
“Chelsea fans will say they would have won the league anyway, but I disagree with them, and that was disallowed and we may have won the league through that goal being disallowed.
“So I look back and think did we lose a league because of that? And people will say Gary, you’re taking the mick here because you won many leagues for Manchester United where you had influence on minutes added on or whatever we had, but fans and players will generally feel they want accurate decisions.
“If I come into a dressing room after the game and my team has lost due to a VAR call, but actually it was right, I’m okay with it.”

Chelsea fans themselves have had their problems with VAR, with Tottenham’s late equaliser at Stamford Bridge a byproduct of inability of those in charge.
The new offside rules have not done much to help the situation, with many issues still cropping up in this department.
While getting to the right decision is always the priority, the way it’s being done is still leaving many to question it the technology is being used to it’s best capacity.
