Chelsea have dreadful Premier League record in one attacking statistic in 2025, only Leicester and Wolves rank lower

Chelsea are one of the worst Premier League teams in 2025 when it comes to a key attacking statistic.

Enzo Maresca has had mixed results so far during his debut season as the Chelsea manager, which means the campaign hangs in the balance going into the final stretch.

If you rewind to December, the Blues were being talked about as potential title challengers. However, in mid-March they’re now fourth in the Premier League table and in the thick of a super-competitive race to even qualify for the Champions League.

Fans will hope that the current March international break has come at a good time to reset everything, especially after Sunday’s 1-0 league defeat away to Arsenal.

Chelsea third worst in the Premier League for shot conversion in 2025

WhoScored data has shared that Chelsea rank the third lowest across Premier League clubs for the worst short conversion rate in 2025. The Blues’ conversion rate this calendar year in the league has been a terrible 8.6%.

In fact, only 19th-placed Leicester City (3.3%) and 17th-placed Wolverhampton Wanderers (7.8%) have worse records.

One of the reasons why Chelsea have only won four of their 10 league games in 2025 is they’ve stopped scoring so regularly. It’s not helped that Blues striker Nicolas Jackson hasn’t played in the previous five top-flight matches due to injury.

The fact that Cole Palmer hasn’t scored since mid-January against Bournemouth in the league is another factor, but it should fall on his teammates to help carry the burden in front of goal. Interestingly, Jamie Carragher compared Palmer to Steven Gerrard by saying he’s noticed the Chelsea talisman become frustrated that others around him aren’t at his level.

Joe Cole wants experience around Palmer to help him during his goal drought. However, there isn’t much of that around the Chelsea dressing room.

Chelsea falling into same trap as last season

Back in the 2023/24 campaign, Chelsea relied on a few individuals to score the bulk of their goals. It’s why they ended up finishing sixth in the Premier League, which put them in the Conference League.

Unfortunately, the Blues do find themselves in a similar position this year.

If there is no 30-goal striker in the ranks, you really need everyone chipping in, especially when there are so many attacking options in the squad.

It’s very disappointing not to see names such as Christopher Nkunku, Pedro Neto or Jadon Sancho on the list above. Let’s see if any of them can enjoy a purple patch of form from now until the end of the season.
