One of the stars of Chelsea’s win against Liverpool is wanted by Real Madrid, however the Blues have a number of names on their list to replace him if it is needed.

Enzo Fernandez enjoyed a tremendous performance against Arne Slot’s side, with the trio of Moises Caicedo, Romeo Lavia and himself dominating the middle of the park.

The World Cup winner’s displays since he joined Chelsea have clearly impressed one of the biggest clubs in Europe. Madrid are known admirers of Fernandez.

Given how important he has proved to Enzo Maresca at Stamford Bridge, if they were to have to replace him they would need to get the signing right.

Chelsea’s four potential Premier League replacements for Enzo Fernandez

The Blues would likely receive a large transfer fee for the Argentine, and seem to have a variety of players on their shortlist.

Journalist Simon Phillips has claimed that Kobbie Mainoo, Adam Wharton, Elliot Anderson and Yegor Yarmolyuk are all on the list if they need to go back into the transfer market.

He said on his Substack: “Mainoo has been liked by Chelsea for a long time and they have already made a couple of approaches to United. The asking price has so far been too high but there is absolutely a deal there to be done.

“Wharton, like Mainoo, is a midfielder that Chelsea have been watching for a while and is high on the list, I’d say one of the top two targets they would look to try and bring IF Fernandez goes.

“Anderson is a player Chelsea have been scouting since he was with Newcastle. Interestingly, we’ve heard that Toon officials really regret selling him.

“Everyone will be familiar with this name [Yarmolyuk], and he is most certainly a player who Chelsea see as obtainable.

“As always with these names and Chelsea shortlisting players, they won’t be the only ones being looked at for this position, there will be other names. These are just the selection that we have been told about from reliable sources so far.”

Phillips makes it clear that there are currently no plans to sell Fernandez, however are preparing for an offer to come their way.

Fernandez winning over his critics

Perhaps due to his price tag, not everyone has been wowed by the midfielder since he joined the club, although those opinions are starting to change.

Jamie Redknapp admitted he was being proven wrong by Fernandez after watching him against Liverpool, a side who he has frequently played well against since moving to the Premier League.

The Argentine plays a crucial role in the middle of the park, being the midfielder who is most relied on to provide goals, and Chelsea would do well to convince him to stay for as long as possible.
