It has been a quiet summer for Chelsea so far, but there will definitely be some new faces in pre-season, including Geovany Quenda.
Quenda is set to arrive from Sporting, while Emmanuel Emegha and Valentin Barco will also be joining Chelsea from Strasbourg.
The Blues are yet to confirm Barco’s transfer, and it is not quite clear what will happen with Emegha. However, the club appear to have made up their mind on Quenda.
Who do you want to see Chelsea sign for each of these positions? 👀
These are the FOUR areas the club have identified for this summer…
Geovany Quenda set to remain at Chelsea
Quenda recently made a promise to Chelsea fans, telling them that next season will be much better than the last one.
The winger is still only 19, so there was a possibility of him being loaned out, but he is now expected to stay at Stamford Bridge.
According to The Athletic, the plan is for Quenda to remain with Chelsea’s first-team, and the Portuguese may not take too much time to settle.
While he was out injured, Quenda spent a lot of time at Chelsea’s training ground doing his rehabilitation.
With Quenda staying in west London, it will be interesting to see where Xabi Alonso plays him. He proved to be quite a versatile footballer at Sporting.
Why Geovany Quenda could be such a useful player for Xabi Alonso
Alonso will be able to use Quenda in different roles, which could make him an asset next season.
The Portugal Under-21 international can play on both flanks, while he even has experience starting as a wing-back.
In fact, it has already been suggested that Alonso could use Quenda as a wing-back in the new campaign. The Spaniard prefers a 3-4-2-1 formation, so wing-backs could very well be needed at Stamford Bridge.
Who would you rather see at left-back next season, Jorrel Hato or Lewis Hall?
Hall is being linked with a return to Chelsea following Marc Cucurella's move to Real Madrid 🇪🇸
The most important thing is that Quenda is going to get a chance at Chelsea next season. As a young player, that is all you can ask for.
Hopefully he can take it and help Chelsea return to the Champions League, but that will not be easy.
