Chelsea are confident that they are going to sign Brighton & Hove Albion midfielder Moises Caicedo ahead of Liverpool.

That is according to a report from The Independent.

It states that Chelsea believe that their offer to Moises Caicedo is superior to Liverpool’s, while the Blues are also confident that they can outbid their Premier League rivals.

It looked like Liverpool were in the driving seat to land the 21-year-old when multiple outlets, including BBC Sport, reported that they had agreed a £111m deal with Brighton for his signature.

However, things may be swinging back in Chelsea’s favour after it emerged that Caicedo is now having doubts about moving to Anfield.

According to Sky Sports, the Ecuadorian is unsure about joining Jurgen Klopp’s side and is currently in London.

More twists to come?

This may not be over until Caicedo is holding up whichever shirt. Both clubs will be praying that it is theirs, but Chelsea will definitely be the biggest loser if it is not them.

The Reds have just entered the fray for his signature. To lose him now after all the work they have put in to trying to bring him to Stamford Bridge would be hugely disappointing.

This is someone Chelsea have wanted since January, with the club having made a £55m bid for the Ecuador international during the winter transfer window, as reported by The Athletic.

After losing the likes of N’Golo Kante and Mateo Kovacic, Mauricio Pochettino really needs Caicedo, whom Liverpool legend John Barnes has described as “fantastic”.

The same can be said about Klopp, who has also lost so many of his own midfielders during this transfer window. Jordan Henderson and Fabinho, for example, recently departed Anfield.

But again, after all of the effort Chelsea have put into this, it would be a real shame for them if they had to watch Caicedo join their rivals.
