Didier Drogba and John Terry sent their supports to Frank Lampard after the former Chelsea boss made a statement following his departure from Stamford Bridge.
These Blues icons have witnessed how cruel and unforgiving the Chelsea manager job could be.
They were there when the likes of Jose Mourinho, Avram Grant, Carlo Ancelotti were told they were no longer deemed good enough to lead Chelsea.
Most Chelsea fans should not be surprised with the decision, it happened 12 times already under Roman Abramovich.
But seeing the axe fell on the club’s all-time leading goalscorer after he pleaded for patience from the board was something else, however, particularly for those who backed Lampard until the very end.
In his statement, Lampard thanked the fans for their supports during his time as a manager.
“It has been a huge privilege and an honour to manage Chelsea, a club that has been a big part of my life for so long,” he posted on his Instagram account on Monday.
“Firstly, I would like to thank the fans for the incredible support that I have received over the last 18 months.
“I hope they know what that means to me.”
Lampard mentioned how proud he is of the academy graduates who have made the step into the first team, calling them “future of the club”.
Interestingly, Lampard also had his say about the club’s decision before thanking everyone at the club, including club owner Roman Abramovich and his players.
“I am disappointed not to have had the time this season to take the club forward and bring it to the next level,” he added.
“I wish the team and the club every success in the future.”
Drogba and Terry’s reactions
Lampard’s former Chelsea teammates Drogba and Terry have shown their supports through their comments.
Drogba said: “Class is permanent, forever a legend.”
The latter went further by posting Lampard and Jody Morris’ photos in a separate Instagram post, with a caption saying: “LEGENDS FOREVER.”
