Transfer insider Graeme Bailey has told The Chelsea Chronicle that the club are not ruling out making one key signing in the January transfer window.
Plenty of money was spent on new signings for the Blues over the summer, as they captured the services of the likes of Joao Pedro, Jamie Gittens and Alejandro Garnacho.
Chelsea fans were disappointed with the summer transfer window though, with the general consensus being that they had not strengthened in the right areas.
Enzo Maresca had publicly called for a new centre-back off the back of Levi Colwill’s serious injury woes, however no new option joined the club.

Chelsea considering signing new centre-back in January
It looks as if the Blues hierarchy are considering going back on their stance though, after seeing injuries impact the seasons of Tosin Adarabioyo, Wesley Fofana and Benoit Badiashile.
Bailey has exclusively told The Chelsea Chronicle that Chelsea are now not ruling out the possibility of signing a new centre-back this January.
He said: “The centre-back position is an issue. We’re getting there now. Obviously, we did a piece about Upamecano where Chelsea are one of the ones talking to him as well. Why wouldn’t they be? Same as Marc Guehi. Why wouldn’t they be talking to these people?
“Chelsea are not ruling out a defender in January, but we’ll see where we are with it. It’s fascinating.”
The contracts of both Dayot Upamecano and Marc Guehi are set to expire at the end of the season, and either of the two would bring some much-needed experience at the back.

Chelsea’s potential centre-back options
As well as Guehi and Upamecano, there are a number of other names who have been reported as of interest to the Blues.
Andreas Christensen will be a free agent this summer too, and obviously has plenty of experience playing at Stamford Bridge under his belt.
Chelsea have sent scouts to watch Joel Ordonez in action at Club Brugge, with them already having a glowing review of him from international teammate Moises Caicedo.
The Blues will also keep in mind that they have some very promising young talents on loan elsewhere. Aaron Anselmino and Mamadou Sarr are highly thought of internally at Stamford Bridge.
