Chelsea now have a real ‘fear’ after being fined by UEFA for breaking financial rules

Chelsea’s recent summer transfer window was heavily impacted by rules placed on them by UEFA as a result of their recent misdemeanours.

The Blues were sanctioned by UEFA for breaking financial rules, seeing them need to sell big in order to register their new signings for the Champions League this season.

They were unable to push on with a number of late signings, which could be the reason behind Xavi Simons making the move to Tottenham despite being a long-standing target.

Chelsea made sure they stayed on the right side of the guidelines outlined by UEFA with the extensive amount of sales they made over the summer. No club has ever made as much in a single transfer window as Chelsea did.

Chelsea fearful of further offence after UEFA sanction

As per the terms of the sanction, the Blues were fined if they do not repeat the same offence, however there appear to be some worries at the club regarding what could happen if that does occur.

Kieran Maguire has stated that Chelsea are content with being fined for actions which proceeded the current owners, however are concerned that repeat offences could see them given footballing sanctions, such as a ban from the Champions League.

“Now, it could be said that Chelsea broke the rules. They absolutely steamrolled their way through the rules and they just paid a fine. And I think you could say as far as Chelsea are concerned, a fine is just a cost of doing business.

“They’re not bothered by it. But their fear is if they do it two times, if they do it three times, could you kick them out of the Champions League? We have to wait and see.”

Chelsea could continue having to be a ‘selling club’

In order to continue to meet the expectations of UEFA, Chelsea are going to have to continue making big money if they want to strengthen their squad in the coming years.

It could be said that big money has already been spent on sorting this issue. There are high hopes for the likes of Geovany Quenda, Mike Penders and Kendry Paez in the first team picture.

However, there will be fears that when these players reach their potential, they could be sacrificed in order to keep the club in working order.

It has already been predicted that Chelsea will sell Estevao for big money after his electric start to life at Stamford Bridge.
