The wait is almost over for Chelsea fans, with the return of the Premier League just days away.

The Blues start their campaign at Stamford Bridge with the tricky test of Manchester City, a baptism of fire for new manager Enzo Maresca.

The Italian will have a good idea of who he wants to start for the opening game after the busy pre-season campaign that mostly took place in the United States.

Here’s The Chelsea Chronicle’s predicted line-up for the domestic season curtain-raiser.

The opening game of the season will come too soon for Filip Jorgensen to prove his worth, meaning Robert Sanchez will begin between the sticks.

Reece James’ suspension and injury will see Malo Gusto start, and given a chance to prove he will be more than a back up this season.

There will be a competitive Chelsea debut for Tosin Adarabioyo after a very solid pre-season campaign.

He will be joined at the back by Levi Colwill, who will look to kick on as a regular centre-back this season.

Marc Cucurella will complete the backline, giving defensive security as Gusto looks to attack.

It will be a first competitive start at Stamford Bridge for Romeo Lavia since his £58m move 12 months ago, with him starring in the United States.

Enzo Fernandez will captain the side as he looks for a much improved campaign in the middle of the park for the Blues.

The final midfield slot will be filled by Moises Caicedo, who Maresca has already claimed he is a big fan of despite just joining.

Cole Palmer will be brought in for his first start of any capacity under the new boss as he looks to do some more damage to his former side.

Off the left will be Christopher Nkunku, another player who will be hoping he has left his injury woes in the past going into the new season.

Up front will be Nicolas Jackson, whose place in the side is already under threat from the emerging Marc Guiu.
