Chelsea set to offer their lowest-paid regular starter a big pay rise

How Chelsea are managing the contracts of their first team players has been nothing short of fascinating since the new ownership took over the club.

Todd Boehly and Behdad Eghbali have offered a number of their new signings over the past 18 months significantly long deals, some running all the way into the 2030s.

They have also not been afraid to reward their top performers with new deals in the face of this. Cole Palmer and Nicolas Jackson have both signed extensions to their deals that have increased their salaries.

The model is designed to have players earn more money based on how they play on the pitch, and it looks as if they are set to offer a new deal to another player who has been playing perhaps a bigger role than many expected.

Chelsea to offer Malo Gusto new contract

Malo Gusto has been a regular starter for the club pretty much the whole time he has been at Stamford Bridge, something that has been needed due to the nature of Reece James’ unfortunate injury record as of late.

According to TBR, the Blues are now prepared to offer a new contract to the Frenchman to reward him for his excellent start to life in West London.

The report goes on to say that Noni Madueke is also in line for a new deal, after being very close to leaving the club over the summer.

Reece James injured again

It looks as if Gusto is going to remain one of the first names on the teamsheet over the next few weeks after another injury for James was confirmed by Enzo Maresca.

While it is hoped it will only be a short-term worry, the issues continue to mount up for the club captain.

Chelsea’s next most obvious option for the position is Josh Acheampong, however there is still no clarity over his future after he was frozen out of all club duties whilst his contract situation remained up in the air.
