Chelsea defender Thiago Silva said he has a “little different” training plan compared to his teammates in order to keep him fit at his age.
It is expected that Graham Potter will have to pay special attention to Silva’s workload both in matches and on the training ground.
At 38, it is actually very impressive that Silva can continue to be such a key and reliable player in a highly competitive league.
The former Paris Saint-Germain captain has already made 18 starts in the Premier League this term, the second-most at Chelsea, behind only Mason Mount.
According to Silva, having a slightly different training menu helps.

“I have my responsibility to understand that we have a young team and that the team theoretically needs me and my help,” the Brazil international explained (via Chelsea’s official website).
“For me to help, I need to be physically well, I need to be well recovered.
“We have a great communication with staff, because I tell them that I need to be well.
“If I’m tired, besides damaging the defence, I won’t be able to help my team.
“So we have this plan that is a little different to the other players, but I’m always on the [training] pitch, every day, I’m never outside of the game and I hope the season ends this way.”
Silva also mentioned that he often shares ideas with former Brazilian basketballer Leandrinho Barbosa and Brazilian mixed martial artist Vitor Belfort, including about recovery equipments.
Well, Chelsea will certainly hope that Silva can continue to maintain his fitness level with both sides reportedly close to an agreement over a contract extension.
Potter also has plenty of defensive options at his disposal, including Trevoh Chalobah and Wesley Fofana, who can be called upon to reduce Silva’s minutes.
