Kai Havertz has acknowledged that he’s not been at his best at the beginning of his Chelsea career and says he’s got a lot to improve.
The 21-year-old German completed a move to Stamford Bridge back in the summer transfer window from Bayer Leverkusen, with international teammate Timo Werner another one of the new signings to arrive.
Havertz is a left-footed talent that lit up the Bundesliga during his time with Leverkusen, which is why Chelsea were confident in splashing out £71million (BBC) for his signature.
The attacking midfielder is dubbed one of the world’s best rising stars and he’s now looking to prove himself in the Premier League.
Blues manager Frank Lampard is perhaps still trying to find his best position after using him in central and wide areas already, but it looks like he’s most effective as a box-to-box number eight.
He’s scored four goals and managed four assists in 15 games so far in a Chelsea shirt, but has explained there is a lot more to come from him.
“I know of course I have a lot of room to improve and I have to do it in the next weeks,” Havertz said, as quoted by BBC Sport.
“I know the start here was not my best. Of course, it was very tough for me to change club, change the country and everything. But now I’m feeling better and better, and I hope the next months and years will be good for me.”
Lampard is still trying to discover the best formula for his side in the Premier League and it’s extremely difficult when he’s got such a talented squad to select from.
Havertz certainly will want to nail down a fixed position in the XI, but will need to find his feet quickly with some impressive league performances to do so.
