Kai Havertz is looking forward to building an attacking partnership up with his new Chelsea teammate Romelu Lukaku, whom he described as a “super striker”.

Havertz had to play the role of a centre forward in the last few months under Thomas Tuchel.

It is not exactly a new thing for him, having played in a similar role at Bayer Leverkusen and the German national team, but it is not his natural position either.

Now that Chelsea have brought in a new striker in Lukaku from Inter Milan, Havertz is likely going to play in one of the two inside forward positions in Tuchel’s 3-4-3 system.

Obviously, Havertz will now face more competition to make the team sheet in that position, but he is excited about linking up with the Belgium international.

“Romelu is a super striker,” the Germany international told BILD.

“He has proven what he is capable of, most recently at the European Championship.

“He is a reinforcement for every club in the world.

“I am happy when I can serve him with my passes.”

The 22-year-old won the Champions League and the UEFA Super Cup in his first season at Chelsea.

Interestingly, Havertz does not seem to be satisfied with his overall performances so far.

“I hope so!” Havertz said about whether he and Timo Werner will have an easier season in England after a year of adaptation.

“The start for both of us was not really good.

“In the meantime, we feel totally at home, we’ve got used to the football, the way of life, the people.

“After such a year with a pandemic and difficult circumstances, hopefully it will be easier now.

“Just the return of the fans is fantastic, it gives a different spirit and is one of the main reasons why I wanted to go to England.”
