When Todd Boehly and Behdad Eghbali took over Chelsea, it became clear that players would no longer be allowed to run down their contracts.
Chelsea’s new owners were forced to watch Antonio Rudiger and Andreas Christensen, two important members of Thomas Tuchel’s squad, leave on free transfers.
Rudiger has been linked with a move back to Chelsea, though that seems unlikely because of the central defender’s age.

Trevoh Chalobah likely to sign new contract or be sold
Trevoh Chalobah and Tosin Adarabioyo are two players at Stamford Bridge who do not have too long left on their contracts.
It is already being reported that Chelsea could sell Adarabioyo this month. As for Chalobah, it is unlikely that the England international will be going anywhere during the January transfer window, given that he is a starter right now.
However, according to BBC Sport, there is growing expectation that he will either sign a new deal or be sold in the summer.

Chalobah, who has made 21 starts in the Premier League this season, is approaching the final two years of his contract.
Former teammates Conor Gallagher and Mason Mount were sold by Eghbali and Co in 2024 and 2023, though they had fewer months remaining on their deals.
Trevoh Chalobah deserves new contract
Chalobah has definitely done enough this season to warrant a contract extension. Whether Chelsea will offer him one remains to be seen, though, while there is no guarantee that he will put pen to paper.
Once Levi Colwill returns from injury and Chelsea sign another centre-back, who could be Jeremy Jacquet, Chalobah is likely to lose his starting spot.
Still, to reiterate, a new contract would be fair. Chalobah has been pretty consistent at the back this term and has even managed to chip in with a few goals.
He is not the first centre-half the Club World Cup winners should get rid of, though his contract situation makes this a complex matter.
