Reports have claimed that Chelsea summer signing Djordje Petrovic is now in line to make his first start for the club today.

According to the Evening Standard, the young goalkeeper is expected to displace Robert Sanchez from the starting side for the first time this season.

Petrovic was brought in the latter stages of the summer transfer window after it emerged that the club had just one first team goalkeeper ready for the upcoming campaign.

Edouard Mendy left early in the off-season as Saudi Arabia came knocking for his services, as one of a number of Chelsea players who made the switch.

Despite a lot of reports through the summer claiming Mauricio Pochettino was happy to go into the season with Kepa Arrizabalaga in goal, it soon emerged that he would not be here for this season at least.

Petrovic to start today

When it became known that Real Madrid were looking to bring in a goalkeeper for this season, they agreed themselves a loan move for the goalkeeper.

It is widely expected that Kepa will not return to the club when his temporary spell away comes to an end, and this has left Chelsea looking elsewhere when it comes to between the sticks for the future.

The signing of Petrovic did somewhat go under the radar when taking into the account the monumental window the club underwent.

The Blues broke their transfer record for the second consecutive window, when they signed Moises Caicedo from under the noses of Liverpool.

However, it has already been claimed by former goalkeeper Brad Friedel that when he does get minutes for his new club, it will be difficult for anyone to remove him from the side.
