Chelsea told they can reach ‘the next stratosphere’ of football with one major Stamford Bridge change, ‘makes the most sense’

TalkSPORT pundit and former Crystal Palace owner Simon Jordan thinks one thing is really holding Chelsea back.

Chelsea are one of the biggest clubs in Europe and have an extremely gifted squad despite their recent struggles in the Premier League.

They are likely to add to it this summer as well, with the likes of Aston Villa’s Morgan Rogers and Athletic Bilbao’s Nico Williams being linked to Stamford Bridge.

However, for Jordan, the size of their current stadium and it not being multipurpose are issues, though he believes there is a solution despite little movement on redeveloping the ground.

Simon Jordan urges Chelsea to play at Wembley while rebuilding Stamford Bridge

If Stamford Bridge is to go under any major work in the near future, Chelsea will have to find somewhere else to play.

Twickenham is one ground Chelsea could use while Stamford Bridge gets redeveloped, while remaining at their current home and building a new stadium at another location is another possibility if the club can get the Chelsea Pitch Owners onside.

Jordan, though, thinks Chelsea should use Wembley while Stamford Bridge undergoes work, which he feels is necessary if the Blues are to get to that next level as a club.

Speaking on talkSPORT, he said: “In order for Chelsea to get into the next stratosphere of what football is now becoming, which is an entertainment business that has all rafts of other facets around it, they need to build a stadium.

“And how they achieve it best… the logical place for me for Chelsea to play would probably be Wembley. The FA would want that utilisation I suspect in the same way that Tottenham utilised it and then to build the stadium that makes the most sense for them to deal with.”

The size of Stamford Bridge is not the only issue Todd Boehly and Behdad Eghbali have right now. Chelsea not qualifying for the Champions League is also hurting the club’s revenue stream.

They will be hoping that the team can make a return to the competition next season, but there is no guarantee that they qualify for it.

What Mayor of London Sadiq Khan has said about Stamford Bridge

Jordan is not the only person who thinks Chelsea need to do something about their stadium.

Mayor of London Sadiq Khan has also discussed Stamford Bridge, feeling that it is “too small” given Chelsea’s stature and what the club have achieved.

“Chelsea are the victims of their success, and Stamford Bridge is now too small for them,” Khan recently said. “After all, this is a team that has twice won the Champions League.”

All in all, if Chelsea are going to compete with their rivals off the pitch, then they are going to need to redevelop their current home or build a new ground entirely.
