Chelsea have had scouts in attendance to watch the U20 World Cup, and The Chelsea Chronicle understands that one player in particular has caught the eye with his performances.
The Blues have made it their mantra since Todd Boehly and Behdad Eghbali took over the club to secure the services of the best young players in world football before their elite rivals.
The highlight addition so far has been Estevao Willian who announced himself to Chelsea fans when he scored the winner in the thrilling victory against Liverpool last time out.
The likes of Kendry Paez, Geovany Quenda and Dastan Satpaev have all been tipped for big things when they eventually arrive, and the success stories so far will encourage them to continue to do these deals.
Chelsea ‘very interested’ in signing wonderkid Gilberto Mora
One of the most promising youngsters in world football is Gilberto Mora, who despite being only 16 is starring at the U20 World Cup.
Graeme Bailey has told The Chelsea Chronicle that while every big club in world football is aware of his talents, Chelsea are making their interest known ahead of other Premier League sides.
He said: “Chelsea are very interested in Mora. His background is phenomenal. First team debut at 15. He’s got over 50 first team appearances for Tijuana. He’s a full Mexican international, he is playing in this Under 20s World Cup, but he’s already putting in the performances. One assist and three goals from the first three games, he’s playing phenomenally. Everybody in the world knows of him.
“Every major club in Europe is keen on him, and Chelsea are very keen. Of all the English clubs, Chelsea are making his people know the most that they like him and he’s a huge talent.
“Mexicans think he’s the best 16-year-old in the world, and I’m speaking to a lot of scouts who do so as well. Chelsea have been to all the Mexican games in Chile.”
Gilberto Mora looking to carry Mexico to world glory
After finishing second in their group, Mexico will need to beat Chile in the Round of 16 on Tuesday night to progress to the quarter-finals.
Given how important Mora has been to his side so far, a lot of eyes will be on him to deliver for his nation and help them advance through the tournament.
He has already enjoyed a very strong domestic campaign, scoring three goals and registering an assist already this season.
