Journalist Simon Phillips has claimed on his Substack that Chelsea are now looking to tie down Levi Colwill to a new contract.

The defender is currently on loan at Brighton, where he is beginning to thrive after finally being handed his chance to impress new manager Roberto De Zerbi.

The boss described him as ‘fantastic’ after he made his Seagulls debut earlier this season, and has been a near ever-present ever since.

He has today been reported to be close to receiving his first international call-up as part of the full England team.

The honour would only be what is fully deserved for the teenager, who many Chelsea fans are calling to be involved from as early as next season.

He was seen in attendance of the club’s victory against Crystal Palace yesterday, just a day after he featured in the 3-0 drubbing of Liverpool.

The defender even had the opportunity to meet new signing Mykhalio Mudryk in the stands, with them potentially being teammates for seasons to come.

It seems the Blues are looking to make this a reality too. Phillips has claimed that they are looking to extend his current deal with the club.

He said: “I’m told that Chelsea have been discussing a potential contract extension with Levi Colwill, and that was part of the reason he was at the game yesterday.”

The Blues have already added to their ranks this Janaury after a busy summer of acquisitions last year.

They’ve signed Benoit Badiashile from Monaco, with him impressing the manager on his debut yesterday. There will surely be more appearances to come for the Frenchman in the coming weeks.

With Wesley Fofana and Trevoh Chalobah also young options that look set for long futures at Stamford Bridge, it will be a competitive route to the first team for the returning loanee.
