Chelsea have identified who is at the top of the list when it comes to potential striker signings ahead of next season.
Liam Delap is a player they made a big effort to sign during the January transfer window, however a deal didn’t come to fruition.
Ipswich Town were desperate to keep hold of him in their attempts to remain in the Premier League, something which looks unlikely at this stage.
Industry insiders see Chelsea as the favourites to sign Delap though, despite the fact Manchester City have a buyback clause inserted in his contract.
Delap is keen on joining the Blues too. The Englishman backs himself to be the first choice option at Stamford Bridge despite the presence of Nicolas Jackson.

Chelsea making move to sign Liam Delap before end of the season
It looks as if Chelsea are prepared to get the deal wrapped up sooner rather than later. According to TBRFootball, the Blues are planning to have the signing agreed before the end of the season.
The report goes on to say that this is because Chelsea are aware of interest from fellow Premier League sides. The likes of Liverpool, Newcastle and Manchester United have all kept tabs on the striker of late.
Chelsea adding Delap to their ranks would see them sign yet another player who Enzo Maresca has worked with during his time at the Manchester City academy.
With how impactful Cole Palmer and Romeo Lavia have been when on the pitch at Stamford Bridge, the Blues will be hoping for a similar impact with the Ipswich man.
Maresca is very keen on Delap, with the manager looking set to continue his tenure at Chelsea after his first season in charge.

Liam Delap stats 2024/25
Delap has enjoyed a very strong first regular season in Premier League football, seeing him announce himself as one of the most sought after strikers for English sides right now.
Despite his side looking set for relegation, the 22-year-old has reached double figures in terms of goals for the season.
