One Premier League legend has now admitted that a move to Chelsea was a very real possibility when he was in the prime of his career.

Former Manchester United superstar Wayne Rooney told ‘Stick to Football’ that the Blues were one of the clubs who were considering making a move for him when it looked as if he may be on the move out of Old Trafford.

Rooney’s time at both Manchester United and Everton has safely seen him remembered as one of the better players in the history of the league.

A lot of his better moments tended to come at the expense of Chelsea teams filled with stars, notably the likes of John Terry and Frank Lampard.

With the two sides normally locked in a fierce race for the Premier League title, any goal could have huge ramifications for the destination of the trophy in May.

History could have been very different though, with Rooney himself coming out and saying there was an opportunity to potentially be playing his football at Stamford Bridge.

Rooney says Chelsea wanted him

He said: “2010. It wasn’t just City, there were a few teams asking. Barcelona, Real Madrid were asking. City were asking, Chelsea were asking. There’s a few teams. I genuinely wanted to stay at United but I think there was a clash with me and the manager.

“I knew once you disagree with him he doesn’t take it lightly. My relationship with the manager was never the same after that.”

Despite his brilliance from a super young age, it remains a firmly unthinkable thing to see him in a Chelsea shirt.

There will no doubt be some wondering though what things would have looked like with a front two of Rooney alongside Didier Drogba, with them both having golden boots to their name for stellar individual campaigns.
