Chelsea youngster Josh Acheampong shares what Enzo Maresca has already said to him that has really helped him

Chelsea defender Josh Acheampong has given some insight into his relationship with Enzo Maresca and what kind of manager he is.

Enzo Maresca was appointed as the new Chelsea manager last month, and it seems like a lot of players are really getting along with him.

Tosin Adarabioyo is a fan of Maresca and by the sounds of it, so is Josh Acheampong, who was taken on Chelsea’s pre-season tour of the United States.

Acheampong did not feature in the Blues’ 4-1 loss to Celtic over the weekend, but he did manage to get some minutes in the 2-2 draw with Wrexham.

The 18-year-old has been speaking about Maresca and how the Italian is already helping him.

Josh Acheampong on Enzo Maresca

Maresca seems to have an open-door policy, with Acheampong revealing that the 44-year-old has told him to come to him about anything.

Since arriving at the club, Acheampong says Maresca has been really “helpful and supportive”.

On Chelsea’s official website, the academy player said: “I have spoken to Enzo Maresca; he’s been really helpful and supportive. He said if I ever have any questions to just ask him and be open.

“As a coach, he’s really detailed and precise. He wants us to play a certain way. I really like it. As a person, he’s really happy. He’s always smiling!”

Maresca has claimed that Acheampong is doing fantastic under him, praise that should give the youngster a real confidence boost.

Again, Maresca seems to have quickly won over a lot of Chelsea players, some who would have been frustrated with Mauricio Pochettino’s departure.

In fact, according to journalist Nizaar Kinsella, Chelsea players weren’t happy with Pochettino’s exit.

However, they have to move on now and it looks like they have done just that. Maresca needs to also be popular with his bosses, though.

Complaints about the club’s transfer strategy and failure to qualify for the Champions League, and Chelsea’s owners will not be too happy with Maresca.

As of now, we are obviously quite far away from that. Joining Chelsea from newly-promoted Leicester City, Maresca will just be delighted to be in the Stamford Bridge dugout.

If he wants to stay there, though, then he needs to win, which means keeping all of his players onside.
