Chelsea’s Levi Colwill is actually statistically outplaying one of the best Premier League defenders right now

A number of Chelsea players have taken their performances up a level this season, with that being reflected in the performances of the side.

This was perhaps to be expected of an extremely young squad, with many of them learning on the job in the last 12 months or so.

One of those who fits this narrative is Levi Colwill, who is now playing his best football in the position he feels most comfortable in.

Colwill has publicly thanked Enzo Maresca for beginning to get the best out of him, and he is currently one of the most important members of the Chelsea starting side.

He has formed a strong partnership with Wesley Fofana, with Noni Madueke stating that they work brilliantly together at the back.

Levi Colwill outperforming Gabriel

While everyone knew his performances were very good, it may catch some by surprise just how impressive his statistics are this season.

In fact, when DataMB compared his numbers to Arsenal’s Gabriel, he exceeds him in pretty much every statistic they measure in.

The Brazilian has been easily one of the best defenders in the league in both penalty areas this season, and has secured Arsenal a number of big points single handedly.

Colwill starting attacks from the back

This only adds to just how good Colwill has been at the back for Chelsea, and his abilities go beyond just keeping the ball out of the net.

Frequently attacks are started from the back under Maresca, and the England international’s ability on the ball is a real plus for the way they play.

Colwill is now set to return to club training after being called up to feature for the Three Lions in their Nations League group stage games.

He grabbed a lot of headlines in their opening game against Greece with a brilliant clearance off the line, however they were defeated at Wembley.
