Chelsea's Mason Mount reacts to Lionel Messi's praise about his potential

Chelsea midfielder Mason Mount has reacted to Barcelona star Lionel Messi’s reportedly describing his potential as “one of the best”.

In March last year, Messi reportedly picked a list of 15 rising stars in Europe in a collaboration with Topp.

Among them are Mount, Christian Pulisic, and Kai Havertz who eventually joined Chelsea from Bayer Leverkusen in the summer.

Speaking about Mount, Messi told Topp: “Having watched him play, he has the potential to be one of the best.”

Unsurprisingly, the comment raised a few eyebrows.

The Argentina international is not exactly known as someone who often publicly talks about other players, especially those outside his Barcelona and national team circle.

Even Mount himself initially had his doubt about the statement.

“I didn’t believe it at first, I didn’t think it was real,” Mount told UMM YouTube channel about his first reaction to Messi’s comment.

“I don’t really have words for it, because it’s crazy to believe.

“When you see and read something like that, it gives you the motivation to just want to get better and better.

“Hopefully I can do that.”

Mount also answered a few other interesting questions about his Chelsea teammates.

Asked whether Billy “Balboa” Gilmour is the hardest player in the Chelsea dressing room, Mount said: “Nah [laugh]. He’s not, [although] he can have a little bite.”

“[It’s actually] Toni Rudiger. There has been a video of him snapping Billy in training, it’s so funny.”
