Chelsea have been handed a major blow in their efforts to complete one of their potential deadline day transfers before the 7pm deadline.
Reports have now stated that the Blues have walked away from the potential signing of Mike Maignan, with the AC Milan goalkeeper emerging as a top target this summer.
Chelsea made an improved offer for Maignan in the late hours of Monday night, with the intention being to secure the signing before the players jet off to the Club World Cup.
The player himself is convinced of a move to Stamford Bridge. Maignan has threatened to run down his contract at Milan if he is not granted the switch he desires.

Mike Maignan to Chelsea ‘not 100% off’
While a move looks as if it will not be confirmed before Tuesday’s deadline, the transfer window will open again less than two weeks later for clubs to continue to do business.
Graeme Bailey has exclusively told The Chelsea Chronicle that he has heard the deal is ‘not 100% off’ and has the potential to run beyond this stage of the summer.
Given the reported bid made by the Blues is very close to what the Serie A side have requested, it feels as if it can be revisited at a later part of the window.
If the deal is not done, it is currently expected that they are going to have to make do with the current options available to the club.

Chelsea’s goalkeeping situation without Mike Maignan
Robert Sanchez enjoyed a very strong end to the 24/25 campaign, however reports have stated that Enzo Maresca has lost faith in his number one after a tough season.
This could see the Blues look towards making Djordje Petrovic their new goalkeeper after his excellent loan spell with sister club Strasbourg.
Petrovic was named in the Ligue 1 Team of the Season, and his improvement with the ball at his feet will likely be attractive to the manager due to his desired style of play.
It is believed the 25/26 season will be too soon for Mike Penders to make his mark, despite an expectation for him to be seen at the Club World Cup.
