One of Chelsea’s fringe players looks set for a move today that will see him playing Champions League football this season.

Carney Chukwuemeka is set for a switch to Borussia Dortmund, with a medical this morning set to see him complete a loan move for the rest of the season.

A number of Premier League clubs were reportedly interested in the young midfielder, and that could have been a benefit to the Blues in their own transfer plans.

Chelsea still want to sell Carney Chukwuemeka after loan to Borussia Dortmund

Ipswich Town reportedly asked about Chukwuemeka as Chelsea continued their quest to sign Liam Delap. That deal is now more likely to occur in the summer.

It was claimed that Chelsea had to accept that a permanent sale for the price they were hoping for was not on the cards this month, with the former Aston Villa man hardly featuring this season under Enzo Maresca.

Despite the fact they have accepted a loan from Dortmund, there is a buy clause included in the deal for the end of the season.

Journalist Simon Phillips has claimed that it is still Chelsea’s intention for him to be sold permanently, despite the fact recent briefs have suggested the Blues could see a future with him.

He said on the Simon Phillips substack: “So after Fabrizio Romano reporting that Chelsea will not be including any buy option in a loan deal for Carney Chukwuemeka because they rate him highly and trust him for the future, blah, blah, blah, Chelsea have agreed a buy option for Carney Chukwuemeka!

“So I guess he IS available then after all. Imagine my shock, it’s almost as if he is a player who has not played for Chelsea for the last six months….

“He’s always been up for sale by the way – he’s on high wages and they want him out.”

Chukwuemeka has just one start for Chelsea this season, with that coming amongst a host of youngsters in the freezing conditions in Kazakhstan in the Conference League this season.

Potential Chelsea deadline day deals

It looks as if Chukwuemeka is not going to be the only Chelsea player who departs the club on deadline day.

Ben Chilwell is undergoing a medical with Crystal Palace as he finally looks to get the opportunity for minutes in the Premier League this season.

A number of players have not had the opportunity they desire under Maresca this season, and the likes of Joao Felix are also being discussed for potential moves away today.
