Ben Chilwell has praised reliable Chelsea teammate Edouard Mendy for his important saves in Saturday’s goalless draw at Leeds United.
The Blues have now been unbeaten for 12 consecutive games since Tuchel’s arrival after the result at Elland Road.
They have also kept 12 clean sheets in that period, but this time they were not as comfortable defensively compared to recent games.
Mendy, who made just 11 saves in his last eight appearances, had to make four saves against Leeds today — two of them were from inside the box.
According to Chilwell, the players have always been confident of Mendy’s ability between the sticks.
“We know that when it comes down to it, we can rely on Edou,” he told BT Sport in his post-match interview.
“[There are] one or two opportunities in the game that he has to concentrate on and make vital saves for us.
“We know that he is going to do that for us.”
Chilwell added that the team is disappointed with the result despite extending their unbeaten run.
“These are the sort of games we want to be winning, it’s a difficult game but if you can’t win it, it is a positive that we are not going to lose it either.
“It was a tough game to play, it wasn’t the best pitch to play on and we come away disappointed we didn’t get the win as we created chances.”
Chelsea still sit fourth in the Premier League table with 51 points but the chasing pack is not far behind.
West Ham, Everton, and Tottenham Hotspur are three points, five points, and six points behind them, respectively, with each having two games in hand.
