Chelsea face a short turnaround for this weekend’s fixture at home to Aston Villa.

Chelsea secured a 2-0 away win in Germany over Heidenheim on Thursday evening. Christopher Nkunku and Mykhailo Mudryk scored second-half goals for the Blues, who continue to dominate the Conference League group phase this year.

Next, the Blues host Villa at Stamford Bridge on Sunday afternoon in the Premier League.

Enzo Maresca’s side will be looking to build on last Saturday’s 2-1 league win away to Leicester City. Interestingly, Ben Foster now thinks Chelsea look good for a top-four finish this season.

Chris Sutton predicts Chelsea vs Aston Villa

Chris Sutton has tipped Chelsea to record a home win over Villa in two days time.

The Blues go into this weekend sitting third in the division table, but they may have dropped by the time they play on Sunday because of how tight things are. As for Villa, they’ve not won in their previous seven matches across all competitions.

Sutton told BBC Sport: “Aston Villa have not been firing on all cylinders recently but they were unlucky not to beat Juventus on Wednesday, after having a late winner ruled out…

“I am backing Chelsea to take this one. They were too strong for Leicester last weekend and while Cole Palmer did not deliver, Nicolas Jackson keeps on scoring and looks like a different player compared to last season.

“Sutton’s prediction: 2-1.”

Paul Merson agrees Chelsea will beat Villa this weekend. In fact, he’s suggested that they could be the club to try chase down current leaders Liverpool.

Similarly, Simon Jordan has a feeling Chelsea can compete with Liverpool, which is not something many people would’ve predicted in the summer.

Villa may be pleased that Conor Gallagher, 24, left Chelsea in the summer and moved to Atletico Madrid. The English midfielder scored in two separate games against the Midlands giants last season.

Fortunately, Chelsea have been a free-scoring side under Maresca with plenty of goalscorers all over the park.
