Christian Pulisic was impressed by Chelsea teammates’ brave display in Saturday’s 1-1 draw with Liverpool as Thomas Tuchel makes a decision over the winger’s Covid-19 situation.

The 22-year–old, who was on the score sheet in Chelsea’s season opener win over Crystal Palace earlier this month, has been absent in the last two games after testing positive for Covid-19.

But the 10-man Chelsea side’s valiant display on Saturday clearly excited Pulisic who likely had to watch from home during isolation.

“Unreal effort,” he wrote on an Instagram story about his teammates’ performance at Anfield.

Fortunately for the American, he will now have plenty of time to regain his match fitness during the international break.

Tuchel has also confirmed that Pulisic’s self-isolation period ended on Saturday, and he plans to send the winger to the national team straight away if possible.

“Christian is released today and will go to the national team, if he can provide a negative test, of course,” the Chelsea manager said during his post-match press conference (via Hayters TV).

“Hopefully he’ll be playing and get some minutes in his legs.”

The US national team will have three World Cup qualifying fixtures in the next two weeks; against El Salvador, Canada, and Honduras.

A few days ago, USMNT head coach Gregg Berhalter admitted that he was unsure whether Pulisic would be ready to feature in any of these games, though.

“Regarding Christian it’s going to be day to day just seeing where he’s at,” he said during his Thursday’s press conference.

“It’s really too early to tell if he’ll be available for September 2, for the fifth, or for the eighth.

“We just don’t know right now. It’s going to be a wait-and-see kind of thing.”

While the trip to El Salvador next Thursday might arguably be too soon for Pulisic, he will hopefully be able to feature in the following two games.

Pulisic is not the only fitness concern for Chelsea ahead of the international break, however.

N’Golo Kante suffered an ankle injury during the Liverpool draw and at this point, it remains unclear whether he will be able to join the France squad for their World Cup qualifiers.
