Club manager hints at potential move to sign Chelsea loanee permanently

Crystal Palace manager Patrick Vieira is impressed by Chelsea loanee Conor Gallagher but insisted the club has yet to make a decision on a potential move to sign the young midfielder on a permanent deal.

The 21-year-old has established himself as a regular for the Eagles this season, having missed just one of their Premier League games so far.

Gallagher has also attracted some attention thanks to his performances, including from Jamie Carragher and Ian Wright.

Recently, the latter even said that Gallagher has been so consistent with his performance that Chelsea should not be able to ignore his case for first-team promotion any more.

Palace boss Vieira has now highlighted what has impressed him about the Chelsea academy graduate.

“Working with Conor, it’s joy really, because he’s a player who wants to fulfil his potential,” the former France international told the media on Friday (via Sky Sports).

“He wants to learn, he’s prepared to work hard, and he’s bringing this energy to the team.

“The staff and myself — we are really enjoying working with him.”

Gallagher’s future at Chelsea remains unclear

Ideally, Gallagher will continue his fine form at Palace and join Thomas Tuchel’s squad next season. But it is obviously much easier said than done.

There is also fierce competition for midfield spots at Chelsea and another year of loan might not be too attractive an option for the young midfielder.

He might decide to join a club where he can play regularly and settle long-term.

Vieira indicated that a permanent stay at Palace could be on the cards for Gallagher in the future, but it is not a topic of interest at the club at the moment.

“It’s really too early to talk about these kind of decisions,” he responded about Palace’s plan to keep the midfielder permanently.

“We are really glad that he decided to come to our football club.

“I think we had the tools to attract him to our football club and I believe that he made the right decision.

“But what will happen in the future, I think we have to wait a couple of months to talk about that.”

Gallagher himself signed a new five-year deal at Chelsea in summer 202. So it is safe to say the west London club will still have the final say in his future in the next few years.
