One Chelsea player is facing a big season when it comes to finally establishing himself as an important member of the first team squad.

It is fair to say no supporters have been blown away with what they have seen from Mykhailo Mudryk at this stage of his career, with him now 18 months into his tenure at Stamford Bridge.

He has so far not announced himself as one of the first names under the teamsheet under any manager, and competition for his place remains in the side from the likes of Raheem Sterling and Tyrique George.

A lot is often made of the Ukraine international for the transfer fee that was paid for him, and the quality of players who preceeded him in his role. Eden Hazard is a clear favourite in this category.

Peterborough United owner Darragh MacAnthony says he has heard from an agent something interesting about the money involving the duo.

Mudyrk earning less than Hazard when he joined Chelsea

He told Talksport: “Would you say Mudryk is on a lot less money in that position than Hazard was when he first came in?”

Co-host Stefan Borson replied: “You are taking an extreme example. I would say Mudryk is on well over £100,000 (per week).”

To which MacAnthony said: “That’s not what an agent has told me.”

Hazard established himself in nearly a decade at Stamford Bridge as one of the best players in the club’s history, and Mudryk still has a long way to go to get anywhere near that.

Mudryk needs huge season

He has been presented another opportunity under new manager Enzo Maresca. It has been claimed that the new boss has been very hands on with the player so far.

If things do not turn around greatly this season, there is every chance the Blues look to the transfer market and try and cut their losses.

One player they have been strongly linked with this summer is Nico Williams, and although he looks set to stay at Bilbao for now, there will no doubt be an opportunity to sign him in a years’s time.
