Nicolas Jackson’s future will be under the microscope, as the striker faces a pre-season test under Xabi Alonso at Chelsea.
Nicolas Jackson’s 2026 World Cup campaign with Senegal ended in heartbreak after a 3–2 Round of 32 defeat to Belgium. It wasn’t the best of tournaments for Jackson, who was reduced to the substitutes’ bench for the last two games after failing to register a single goal.
Fresh off a productive, title-winning loan spell at Bayern Munich, Jackson will enjoy a brief summer break before returning to Stamford Bridge.
He is highly determined to stay at Chelsea and fight for his place, but he will need to use the upcoming pre-season to impress the newly appointed manager Xabi Alonso.

Thoughts?
Chelsea are still very much undecided on Nicolas Jackson
Fabrizio Romano issued an update on Nicolas Jackson’s future on his Instagram, which relayed Bayern Munich’s official decision on the striker, as well as Chelsea’s current stance.
‘Nicolas Jackson, back to Chelsea as FC Bayern confirm they do not activate buy clause.
‘€50m buy option clause has not been triggered as decided months ago, considered too expensive for the striker.
‘Kompany appreciated Jackson, but he’s leaving, now back in England at Chelsea with Xabi Alonso set to assess him.
‘There are several clubs keen, but Chelsea are yet to decide if they want to keep Jackson at the club, sell… or loan him out.’
And after a goalless World Cup, you would have to say that it would take something special for him to turn things around at Chelsea.

However, one thing that is for sure is that Cole Palmer will be pleased to link up with Jackson again, which was evident from him liking Romano’s update on Instagram.
Palmer and Jackson combined for 10 goals during 2023-24, the best duo in the Premier League. Palmer got 15 assists in all competitions that season, but this season, he’s been a shadow of himself.
Even pundits like John Obi Mikel have stated that Jackson is the missing piece for Palmer. It just depends on whether the African striker can show the kind of consistency in front of goal that went missing prior to his loan move this season.
