Cole Palmer continues to be the talisman in Chelsea’s side this season, and one eye-catching attacking statistic proves that he’s getting even better during his second year at Stamford Bridge.

Now into his second campaign as a Chelsea player, Cole Palmer is still capturing the imagination of the club’s fanbase on a weekly basis.

The 22-year-old attacker spent the majority of last season thriving on the right wing under Mauricio Pochettino. In the current 2024/25 campaign under Enzo Maresca as the Blues manager, he’s operating more centrally in the No.10 position.

Maresca suggested he could use Palmer as an emergency striker for Chelsea, but he’s been playing in the pocket behind Nicolas Jackson this season.

Interestingly, the statistics highlight that Chelsea’s Palmer has massively improved in one attacking metric. He’s more than doubled the number of non-penalty goals he’s scored this season when you compare it to the same stage as last year.

It’s great to see that Palmer isn’t relying as much on penalties right now for his goal output. As it stands, he’s on course to smash the 20-goal barrier yet again with the Blues.

Palmer is being let down by his fellow Chelsea attackers because he’s not registered an assist since early December despite being a creative machine.

It was claimed back in July last year that Chelsea had faith Palmer would improve under Maresca. Overall, we’ve seen enough to concur that has definitely happened.

He’s on a rare drought of four appearances across all competitions without scoring or assisting, so we wouldn’t be surprised if he shines during Friday night’s trip to Brighton in the Premier League.

It’s obvious when you watch the Blues this season that everything positive comes through Palmer. A big reason why the team sits fourth in the league table right now is because of his influence on the pitch.

At the age of 22, the exciting thing is that the left-footed playmaker could still have an incredibly high ceiling to reach as he develops and matures.
