Even though Chelsea picked up a much-needed victory over Southampton on Tuesday night, Cole Palmer may have been left disappointed by his contribution.
Chelsea recorded a convincing 4-0 home win against strugglers Southampton in the Premier League.
The Saints stay rooted to the bottom of the Premier League table with only nine points from 27 games this season. As for the Blues, they’re back into the top four as their bid for Champions League qualification received a real boost.

Cole Palmer didn’t shine in the Chelsea player ratings versus Southampton after a frustrating 90 minutes for him.
The 22-year-old attacking midfielder wasted a few great chances to get on the scoresheet. Most notably, he’s now on a run of seven consecutive matches across all competitions without a goal or assist, which is his longest drought since arriving at Stamford Bridge.

Cole Palmer promises he’ll bounce back after firing blank versus Southampton
In a defiant message to the Chelsea supporters straight after the Southampton result, Palmer promised that he’ll soon rediscover his form in front of goal.
Palmer wrote on in his Instagram story: “Well done lads. Don’t worry I will be back.”
It’s great to hear the struggling Blues star speak up on his attacking woes and insist he’ll soon be back to his best. We’ve certainly got no reason to doubt him, too.
David Luiz recently compared Palmer to Eden Hazard, which tells you about the level of player he really is.

Cole Palmer struggling for confidence
Former Chelsea goalkeeper Mark Schwarzer flagged that Palmer may be struggling for confidence after watching his display against Southampton in midweek.
“Cole Palmer looks like someone that needs a bit of re-aligment. He just looks off. For him it is frustrating because he had quite a few good chances and didn’t take them,” Schwarzer told BBC Radio 5 Live.
“He’s down on confidence, snapping at things, and doesn’t quite have the fluidity he had before.”
Ultimately, we’re not too concerned about Palmer because he’s still getting in the right areas and carrying a threat to the opposition. He just needs one goal for the floodgates to open again.

Mario Melchiot says Chelsea rely too much on Palmer. Therefore, it was great to see other teammates step up and contribute in the 4-0 hammering of Southampton.
