Cole Palmer reveals what Enzo Maresca did straight after Chelsea’s late defeat to Fulham

Chelsea have hit a mini slump in their season after losing on Boxing Day at home to Fulham.

Chelsea were beaten 2-1 by local rivals Fulham in the Premier League, which comes shortly after the weekend’s draw at Everton.

The Blues now have only one point from their previous two league matches, so it’s a chance for runaway leaders Liverpool to pull even further ahead in what’s becoming a one-sided title race in the division.

Cole Palmer, 22, scored a stunning individual goal to put Chelsea in front, dribbling past a couple of defenders before tucking the ball through Issa Diop’s legs and into the net. Chelsea fans compared Palmer to Eden Hazard because of his type of goal on Thursday.

However, Fulham responded with two late goals in the second period to snatch the three points.

What Enzo Maresca said to Chelsea’s players after losing to Fulham

During his post-match interview, Palmer was asked what Chelsea boss Enzo Maresca said to the players straight after the Fulham defeat.

He responded via Amazon Prime Video Sport: “Nothing, he said it’s a good opportunity to learn. We’ll look back at it. Rest, recover and play in three days.”

In general, Maresca has got most things right since he took charge as the Chelsea manager in the summer. The Italian head coach will be disappointed with his team’s third league defeat of the season today, though.

Chelsea boss Maresca should have used his substitutions better against Fulham, but no supporters should be too hard on him after an off-day.

It’s still been a really good first half of the season for the Blues, so now is the time to stay composed and keep working hard together.

Did Cole Palmer mean nutmeg for his goal?

During the interview above, Palmer was further asked whether he meant to nutmeg Fulham’s Diop for the opening goal of the Boxing Day fixture

The Blues attacker gave a one-word response: “Yeah.”

If you see the catalogue of Palmer’s goals at Chelsea, there’s no reason to doubt him. The English attacker is regularly producing special things when he steps on a football pitch.

Chelsea playmaker Palmer leads the Premier League statistic for the most goal contributions (39) throughout the whole of 2024. Can he finish off the calendar year in style away to Ipswich Town next Monday?
